Amex Customer Service Reviews

Postby FutureBillionaire » Wed Oct 03, 2012 12:15 pm

I'm not a fan of talking to different customer service teams for my two cards. The folks that I talked to regarding my AMEX BCP were clearly overseas and sticking to policies and scripts. I get much better service with my PRG. Has anyone else experienced this?

Although I have not experienced the levels of frustration some of you have, I am curious as to where AMEX sends certain card holders to when you call customer service.

As a Canadian cardholder, ALL of my calls seems to be handled right here in Canada albiet from the eastcoast.

I believe lots of people find this, with AMEX and other companies. With AMEX, they reserve the American call centers for their higher end cards like PRG and Platinum (Centurian obviously). But if you have a lowly Blue, Clear, ZYNC or other small dollar annual fee card you likely get sent off to India.

Whenever I called on my plain Jane Gold card (1999-2005) I ALWAYS spoke to a US representative. The annual fee for that card was $75 and this was back when Membership Rewards was optional for an additional $20-$25 per year.

It could just be too that they use the Indian call centers for overflow and you have just been unlucky to receive India each time. Try calling during off peak times on your BCP and see what happens. I have learned to primarily contact customer service of any creditor through email and Twitter. I get much better and clearer help using these channels.

I don't believe I have ever called AMEX on my current ZYNC or Blue cards....

I was trying in vain to get my AF credited for the first year. I might just have to bite the bullet. This site had a promo for the annual fee waiver and extra cash back that I noticed after I signed up for the card.

I've called Amex customer service twice: once, to address unauthorized charges on my account and secondly, to upgrade my cards from green to standard gold. On both occasions I talked to a US customer service reps who were knowledgeable, courteous and clearly went above and beyond to help me with my issues. As far as I'm concerned Amex customer service lives up to its reputation: legendary!

ROFL.... my response to that would be "oh and Mr. CSR.... my name is really Mao Tse Tung despite what the front of the card says. It's easier to say Mr. John Smith than my Asian alias"

I figured. I've been mostly happy with American Express, but I can do without the annual fees. If I don't get the right bang for my buck, I will cancel both of them and use other cards. I really want to use the 6% on the BCP, so we will see how it goes.
