Serious issues with Amex prepaid

Postby shoptalk01 » Wed Oct 03, 2012 3:41 am

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this as it's about the new Amex prepaid card, but here goes.... For some reason my work wanted me to put my expenses on a card and have an itemised statement to go with my expense report so they suggested I try one of these cards. First I ordered a card online, I was going to try to have funds put on it when I ordered it, but for some reason they had problems with it and cancelled the order. I went through the thing of having the 2 deposits put in my bank account, went online to verify them, etc but the said due to a problem they were unable to complete the order. Next I tried ordering a card with no funds on it, but this is the email I got back.

Thank you for choosing the Card.

Unfortunately, we could not complete your order for the following reason:

We could not verify your order information and cannot approve your order at this time.

If you feel that this was caused in error, please call us toll-free at 1-866-207-7970.

I tried again with the same result. Next I tried using my Mom's address as for some reason some of these places think that's my address. I don't live there but I just moved and have a new address so that may have something to do with it. Anyhow that order went right through and later that day I received an email that I was going to be getting a card.

A few days later to my surprise I was sent a card to both addresses. Both cards have my name on them but a different number. When I tried to create an online account both cards showed up, but then I got a error message saying that the card I was trying to register was already registered. I tried the other card but was unable to register either card.

What I'm finding online is lots of people think these prepaid cards are some sneaky underhanded why Amex has of getting your info for purposes of marketing other products to you. So far these cards have been added to the pile of jokes, scams and rip-off cards that I've tried and didn't make the cut.

What I need to know is, is there a way of getting around the problem of receiving 2 different cards in my name at different addresses? I would have never ordered again if I wouldn't have received the message that the order couldn't be completed. Not sure how I would explain this. What does everyone think I should do next?

Pick up the phone and call AMEX to straighten it out efficiently.
