Does AMEX give freebies to people who complain?

Postby superjabber » Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:15 pm

I have several legitimate complaints/suggestions with respect to AMEX but I can't be bothered to type them up if all that is going to happen is some guy in India will apologize profusely to me, promise to send them to his supervisor, and do nothing.

Many companies (eg: Amazon, airlines, cell phone companies, high end department stores) will send you a coupon/ bill credit/ offer it they screw something up and you complain. Does AMEX do anything similar?

No. They do not give freebies to anyone unless you are a Centurion member, then you get free stuff all the time. AmEx makes it right but remember they are out to make money. You don't make money when you give away the farm. They won't even give MR points!

My limited experience with Amex is that they are very stingy. A few years ago when they finally credited me MR points that were due to me all along, they made it sound as if they were doing ME the favor. I'm using BCP now after years of avoiding Amex. So far it's been good, but I'll drop them again if they piss me off.

I've had a very good experience with complaints. They blocked my card when I tried to make a purchase at a restaurant I go to all the time and I always use my Amex. I asked why this was stupid and they said they would get the fraud team to investigate this, 2 months later I get a letter with a credit of £30
