discontinued amex cards

Postby craigm1 » Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:30 am

I have the original amex blue cash rewards 5% drugstore, gas, and supermarket. A friend has an optima card, don't even know how long its been since they had that card.

How long can I expect to be left alone with my discontinued blue cash card?????????

The Optima is an oasis card that is in the process of being phased out. I just closed mine on Monday and am planning on apping for the Delta Skymiles GC. *fingers crossed*

Sounds like they grandfathered you into the original Blue Cash program. Unfortunately they can decide to move you into Blue Cash Everyday at anytime but it sounds like for now they are allowing the old system. This was the one that you had to spend $6K first right? I don't even remember it anymore.

The real rewards don't hit till $6500 but no annual fee so with my calculations it's a wash, with gas where it is 5% really is nice and I run a few hundred a month in prescriptions on it so would like to keep it as long as I can the card did start at 1.25% for non 5% categories, in Feb. of this year they lowered it to 1% but I think that's what the other blue cash cards are at.

The American Express Red is an American Express credit card which has been launched for the first time in the United Kingdom in March 2006. Applicants must be UK residents. It is part of the Product Red initiative.

The principle of the card is that every time money is spent with it, 1% of the amount is sent to a fund called Global Fund, created in 2002 to fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. When the yearly spending amount exceeds £5000 a year, this percentage is increased to 1.25%.

In the UK, the card is advertised by spokespersons such as Bono, Gisele Bündchen and Elle Macpherson.

Red American Express is mentioned in the songs "The Way I Are" by Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson, and "She Mine" by Bow Wow ft. T-Pain.

In Spring 2011, American Express and Product Red no longer allow online applications and they are scaling down on advertising. Applications now have to be made via telephone directly to American Express.

As of August 2011 American Express have scaled back support for the RED card and all applications for new cards are closed.

The red card in the UK was infamous for giving you a rubbish credit limit. Not sure why but I'm pretty sure it was to do with the fact that they had to give the percentage where as with most of its reward cards, most people probably never use the points lol
Amex UK Platinum Charge Card
Amex Blue Cash USA
Amex US Gold Corporate Card
World MasterCard Capital One UK (Free abroad + Cashback + Free Cash Withdrawals with no interest)
