Is it too soon to apply for a second AmEx card?

Postby Kinnick » Sun Aug 12, 2012 11:05 pm

Hello--I'm glad I found this forum, because I need some advice. Two weeks ago I applied for my first American Express card--the TrueEarnings card in conjunction with Costco. On the same day that I applied, I received an invitation in the mail from AMEX to apply for the Gold Card.

I was approved for the TrueEarnings card with a $5200 credit limit, and just activated it yesterday. The thing is, even though I'm going to be happy with it, I probably would have applied for the Gold instead if I had gotten the letter in time. The reservation deadline reads September 3rd, and my question is this: is it too early to apply for that second Amex card?

I'm happy to be with American Express due to the AMEX reputation for exceptional customer service, but I've also heard that they can be touchy about quick turnaround for new applications, and don't want to start off on the wrong foot with them.

Any advice you can offer would be great--thanks in advance.
