New to AmEx

Postby harteaga » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:05 pm

Hey everyone! So, I recently became an AmEx card member! I was so excited I got approved for my ZYNC card 2 months ago. Here's my story:

As soon as I turned 18, I applied for a credit card at my moms credit union, they rejected me because of the new law, so I continued using my debit card like I always had. After that, I applied for the Bank America student card, and was still rejected (even after my mom co signed with me). After I turned 19, Capital One sent me an offer for their Journey card. I was thrilled, I applied, and got accepted. They ended up giving me a small limit of $300 and later raised it to $500. I love my Capital One card, but wanted to add an Amex to my wallet.

I waited 6 months, did a bit of research, and ended up applying for the ZYNC online and was instantly approved! At first I wanted the Blue Cash Everyday, but after reading a few threads, I thought I was going to be rejected (I should've applied anyways, but o well). Since it's a NPSL card, I called to ask what my internal credit limit was and was told it was $2000. With the spending I do and the amount of times I pay it off in a month, Im guessing it will go up.

Anyways, I love my ZYNC and have had it for about 2 months now. I would prefer not having an annual fee and getting cash back with no annual fee instead, although it pays for itself with the spending I do. My question is, whether I should apply for the BCE, and if I get approved, close my ZYNC account and just stay with the BCE? I wouldnt mind having 2 amex cards, but I really dont see the point if I wont be using one of them. Of course, if they reject my app, I'll just stay with my ZYNC.

p.s. I love this forum!

Welcome. I have always found my rewards outweighing the annual fees for my amex cards. Enjoy.

Same here. I find I get good value for the crazy amount I pay for my centurion membership.

How long have you been using your Zync? If it has been a while, go ahead and drop me a PM and I will send you a referral for BCE. Otherwise, wait a few weeks/months before you apply.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

It's only my second month and I use it like a debit card. The only thing that bugs me is waiting for my points to show. It's been the second month and still, no points to show on my summary; I guess I'll just be patient.

This is funny because this thread explains my exact situation; I have a Journey card and I just got my limit raised to $500, and I am also looking to get into the Amex arena with a Zync. I guess I should wait a bit longer to apply for the Zync card.
BarclayCard -- $900
Capital One Journey Card -- $500

I think that depends on how long you've had the Journey and your history with it. You may very well be able to get a Zync right now. I received my Gold Amex with only a WFNNB Trek card reporting for 3 months. My recon letter mentioned some lines that weren't reporting on Experian when Amex pulled it, but I think you have a decent chance.
