Switching from Zync to SPG

Postby kuledj » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:21 pm

i've had a zync card for the last few years and don't really use it much (except for large purchases in order to have the great amex customer service). i was looking into getting a spg card but dont want to have to pay both annual fees.

is it possible to switch credit line to the spg without losing the length of time ive had the zync open so that it doesnt hurt my credit score?

I think you can only product change in to like products. Last I checked, ZYNC wasn't upgradable or changeable. You can apply for SPG and AMEX will backdate it to the start of your ZYNC Card. Then you can cancel your ZYNC. It will still list on your report and will be factored in to your score for at least 10 years even though it isn't active. For $25 a year I've just kept mine open but to each their own.
American Express: Platinum, Zync, Platinum Delta SkyMiles, Blue, Starwood Preferred Guest
Barclaycard US: iTunes Reward Visa, US Airways Premier World MasterCard
Chase: Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature, Freedom Visa
Citi Bank: Hilton HHonors Visa Signature, AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard
Bank of America Virgin Atlantic World Elite MasterCard
Discover: Discover it
Other:Macy's Star Rewards, Target REDCard

it's a good idea what you did by leaving your zync open.

you know the starwood preferred guest is a hotel credit card correct? do you travel on business? yes your starwood card would have the same membership date as your zync card. I believe your credit line would be different because your zync card is a premium card and your starwood card is a lending card. 1 you pay in full and the other you have the option to carry a balance.
