Upgrade Card & then Apply for New Card or Vice Versa?

Postby KingVicc » Thu Jul 19, 2012 1:26 am

Would you guys recommend I upgrade my Blue to the Blue Cash Everyday & then apply for the Chase Freedom, or vice versa?

My TransUnion score is 721. I recently (a week ago) increased 3 credit lines and they were approved. I'm not sure if any were hard inquiries but assuming they were, would applying for the freedom use that same pull or a whole new one? Thanks!

Apply for Freedom first. You know application will be one or more hard pull, assuming and upgrade is a hard pull as well, it is more likely to be approved for an upgrade than it is to be approved for Chase Freedom.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Also you list 2011 as the date, Amex will require that it be 13 months before giving you the upgrade (citing the CARD Act).

Oh, you mean 13 months since I first received my Blue? oh then in that case I would go for the freedom now and in October I would go for the BCE.

One more thing, I'm not sure if any of the three cards, used a hard pull when I increased my credit line, but if one did would they have all used the same one? Would this new credit card application also use that pull or do a whole new one? Thanks!

Yes 13 months from when you got the card.

No. If they did, it would be separate pulls as they are all different companies. They would not share the pull between each other. So if you are apping for a new card it will be a new pull, and it will for sure be a hard inquiry.

an upgrade isn't a hardpull. but a new application is. all an upgrade is changing from 1 level to another.
example going from a green to a gold or gold premiere would have the same account number, on the report it still says American Express. going from a capital1 venture card gold version to Blue no hard pull, just a level change , same account number.

now from a chase Freedom visa to a Mastercard this is a different situation as 1 poster brought it to my attention that Visa starts out with a 4 while Mastercard is a 5. I would assume until somebody tell us differently the first four numbers are different but the rest of the account number should be the same. it goes under chase on the credit report.
