I just applied and was approved for the Delta Gold Skymiles. I hope my miles post as quickly as those above. I probably wouldn't be bothering with the card except for the free checked bag (and 35k bonus miles after $750 spend is really nice, too).
I realized that the checked bag fee on Delta actually is helping build their business. Me, for instance: I picked Delta for my last trip because of flight times; knew I'd have to pay to check a bag so decided to carry on. "Damn, this bag is heavy." Checked it on way home at cost of $25.
Southwest goes to the same place, but strangely their fares are a bit higher than Delta's, which takes away the advantage of free checked bag. So back to Delta. Apply for their credit card to get free checked bag and "priority" boarding, whatever that means (do I get to walk on the little red carpet?)
Now I've got a Delta credit card. Whose airline do you think I'm gonna fly next time?
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).
*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.
