How to get AmEx Black Card?

Postby cdogg » Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:41 pm

I am new to this forum, but not new to the private banking. I have read some questions or curiosity about how to get an American Express black card or even JPM Palladium card. Here are some stories i want to share with everyone from my experience as being a personal financial guy for a billionaire.

My client is B and very wealth but very private. Anyway, he is wealthy enough that he has spent an average $300k a month just on household spending. I won't go into details since it is confidential. But one day, I was asked to get him AMEX Black Card. I asked why all of sudden he wants this card (he never cares), find out that his wife saw another guy's wife has one at a dinner, she just wants one in her purse.

I was given a week to get one. I know it is invitation only. By the way, my client has accounts with all major investment banks (GS, JPM, UBS, etc). so i called AMEX NY head office directly, ask for VP in charge of Black card. Finally I spoke to this lady, she just kept saying that it is invitation only, so i said why don't you google his name right now. didn't work. I was pissed.

Instead, i called his private banker in UK (SG Hambros), through her, the banker contacted AMEX europe office to get card for him within a week. Again my client also has palladium card as well, he uses that card more than AMEX. Actually i got it for him through JPM private banking side, no question asked since he has very long history with JPMorgan. currently he has like 3.5 million points on the card.

So for really wealthy people, they really don't care about these cards. They can pay anything in cash. A lot of times, their wives are the ones who want it in their purse.

Regarding the benefits, they don't care the airline clubs, since they charter the jet on all his trips.

I would probably just send AMEX copies of credit card statements showing you spend over 300k a month. I know with the black card, You have to spend more than 250K a yr to atleast be eligible. Other than that,Ask if your client wants to invest in an up and coming pop. But good luck to your black card journey, hopefully you get one as well.

I'm trying to fathom that, but for some reason it's one of those things I just can't fathom. Like the national debt. Or billions of years ago.

He does sound like the perfect Amex customer.

acutally considering his networth, her request is not that unreasonable, but little bit much for me since i had to get it within a week. but it was part of job. for someone who spend average $300k to 800k per month on household, it is nothing. for him, he doesn't even know exactly how many cards or accounts he has, that is why we are the people here to track everyrthing daily as full time job.

anyway, as i said before, he has about 3.5million points on JPM card, it is like what 35k cash value. but i don't think he even knows or cares. every once a while, when his wife or nanny needs to go take international trip, they will do first class. but majority of time it is either company jet or chartered jet.

Demanding that you get it within a week is a bit much. It's not so much what they demand but they want it NOW just because they want it NOW and have gotten whatever they wanted all their lives so they don't realize or really care about how difficult things are in the real world for those of us who don't have infinite money.
I've worked for people like that too, and they would make demands that were pretty much impossible to meet (and typically they don't want to spend a dime doing it) and it falls on deaf ears when you tell them that engineering a rocket that can get to the moon in a week on no budget isn't feasible - their response is I want it NOW and there will be hell to pay if I don't get it!
I can honestly say I do not miss that drama a bit.

lol. yeah, especially when you work for wealthy people's family office. that is exactly what you deal with everyday. i got used to it tho. One instance is that his wife's purse was lost, i basically have to reissue all cards for both of them and put block on all accounts. worse thing is that she did that twice within six months period. yeah, pay was good, and you have eye-opening experience, but it also comes with all the pia requests. Thanks God, i had very good relationship with all the priviate banking guys, they are the best.

I was just messing .. and yea I was mostly referring to the fact that she needs it in a week. If I spent that much monthly and didn't get a BC than I would be a bit peeved as well.

I wonder why he was overlooked in the first place! I'm no where near that guy's financial level but if I'm eligible for the black then so should he. Maybe it's because he has not been an Amex client before???

His wife just needs a new boy toy LOLOLOL...

Can enough $$$ in an AMEX Savings account trigger an invite?

Postby AMEXGoldfan » Wed Jul 18, 2012 6:21 pm

I have an Amercian Express online savings account and was wondering if someone had enough money in that account, would that trigger an invite for an AMEX Black Centurion card? Not that I have that concern yet, but what if you had $5-$10 million in an account with them? IMHO, it seems plausible. What do you think?
