Got Approved after BK

Postby DeadSpider » Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:27 pm

Just for the hell of it i applied for AMEX Blue SKY and got the will let you know page !!
So a minute later i check the status and was approved WOOHOO.

I wasn't sure if i was going to get approved since i had the GREEN card in BK from few years ago 2004 but my credit report now is clean and BK will be removed in late 2014.

I called and asked my credit limit and the lady told me $2000 so i went ahead asked her if i can have it backdated and i was told no because old card my canceled.

Any advice when i get my card
1: Ask for a higher limit 6k maybe (Do know about 60 days CLI)
2: Ask for backdate again ?

Thanks in advance.

PS: It's said now that i think about it my green card only had few hundred dollars on it and i let it go to BK. I was young, broke and stupid with $$$ LIVE AND LEARN

I think you'll need to wait 60 days but you can try for 6k on day 61.

I wouldn't push them too hard for backdating. Sometimes they give it and other times they don't give it to you. Wait and see if when you get the card and use it online, it shows your member date as 2004 (or whatever the date was you got the Green) and if it does, you can call up and say that it says your membership date says X and could they please send you a card with the same date and update their records or something very nicely to that effect. Best to not rock the boat with them (though I'd do well to practice what I preach....).

If the member since date comes up as 2012, I think you are just gonna have to suck it up and live with it. Not terrible but it would be great to get that backdating.

You think me being a AU for a month helped ? When i called it asked me which credit card i was calling about SKY or Blue Cash.

Good for you, I was in a similar boat I had a gold and an optima card in 94 they were included in a bankruptcy, I got a pre approved offer for a blue sky in 08 with a $3200 limit when I got the card and I logged on the website it said member since 89 if it says it on the website push for the backdate it will make a big difference having an account that old on your credit report, I have since switched to blue cash I have the original card not offered any more I have been charging about 4-5k a month for the last 2 years and now my limit is $30k use the crap out of the card for your daily expenses and pay them off every month and they will raise your limit, congrats on your second chance it feels so good after going 12 years without amex to be back!!!!!!

I would hold off on the CLI for a while and enroll your new card online and see if the "member since" date has changed. If not then I would contact the credit reporting department to see if you can get your card backdated.

There is a good chance when you log on the net to check your account information it may say your original member date if it does then ask to backdate, If you use the card for everything you can they will be more accommodating I would even go as far if your limit is 2k a month and you can max the card out monthly and pay it off every month very quickly they will get the hint and after 6 months I would ask them to raise you to 5k should be no problem, my card limit was $1300 2 1/2 years ago and about $125k in charges later my limit is 30k use it and they will increase quickly I'm proof between my wife and I we charged about $4500 a month and used the card about 90-100 swipes a month

It's going to be little hard to max it out since my wife and i use her Amex Blue Cash Preferred. I'm just happy to get approved as i know over time i'll have higher credit limit unlike my CapOne been stuck @ 6.5k forever.

I will be posting the member date as soon as i get my card and create yet another login account.

So if the member date says 98/99 don't remember then what ? Call up Amex ask for a new card with old date anything else ?
