How does AMEX handle additional users when I upgrade?

Postby KingVicc » Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:19 pm

Hi,

Just in case my question is confusing, I'll rephrase it. I've currently held the American Express Blue Card for about 11 months. I've received a credit increase, and just added an additional user to my account this past week. Any who, I've been reading a lot on the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Card, and feel like it will benefit me much better than my current card. (I spend about $200 on gas a month and that 2% cash back sounds nice).

If I call customer service to upgrade my card, what will happen to the additional user's card? Will their's also be upgraded? How would this work? Thanks!!!

i am in a similar situation only on the charge card side....i recently added a user and amex offered to allow me to pay larger purchases over time, but i am now considering upgrading to gold and i am wondering if the authorized user will get a gold card as well.

Yes they will be upgraded to the new cards as well. Your keeping the same card number, so its a internal product change. When I did a change from Blue to BCE, they sent me additional card for my wife and ex-girl. So called them right away to cancel my ex's..

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm assuming that this mean that our current cards would be deactivated, and we would both receive new ones, correct. Also, since it's an upgrade, I'm under the impression that it wouldn't count as a closed account on my credit score or as a new account. Also, she hasn't gotten her blue card yet, would you recommend I wait until she receives it and activates it (for me to upgrade), or should I just go ahead and do it?

P.S. I just received a credit increase 2 days ago. Will it hurt my credit if I try to upgrade? Thanks so much for your time!!!! :D
