Is there a fee to add an authorized user to the Blue Cash Preferred? I can't find it mentioned one way or another on the Amex site.

I got the BCE several months ago (before I found this forum), and I'm considering requesting an upgrade. The $75 annual fee makes sense based on the increased cash back, but the numbers don't come out as good if I have to pay an extra $75 to get a card for my wife too.

Also, do I have to wait a full year from my original approval to upgrade from Everyday to Preferred or can I do it sooner?

I don't know, but usually AU fees are less than the card fee itself - Gold has a 125 fee but AU is 25 I believe. Since they waive the first year fee on many of the cards, they would also waive it the first year for the AU.

And yes you will have to wait 13 months to upgrade if that's what you want to do as Amex will tell you that the Card Act requires this. (I don't know if it really does but this is how they interpret it and abide by it). You can always apply for the BCP in the meantime, but if you want to upgrade you will have to wait.

From the Amex Blue Cash page on their website:

Maximize your cash back

* Add family or friends to your account at no extra charge — their eligible purchases count toward your Reward Dollar balance.

But I would call to confirm. Doesn't say that they'll give you an extra card, but I would ASSUME that's what it means.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.
