Amex and AUs

Postby MemberSince99 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:05 am

Just some info on AUs for those interested. Amex has a really nice system where you can add Authorized Users to your account. They are issued their own card with a different number from yours, but you are responsible for their purchases of course. You can give them a set limit (below yours of course if you have one) as well.

Further things I found is Amex wants their SS# and they will hard pull credit on the AU. They base the decision off YOUR credit history with them (unless the AU has burned Amex in which case YMMV), but they still do the hard pull on the AU and it reports to the CRAs as an account for them.

Just wanted to share a bit of what I'd learned doing this for those who are curious about it. I liked the Amex AU system to be honest, mostly because it let me set a limit for the AU and it used a different card number so if you remove them your card will still work.

Thanks for the info. Are you sure its a hard pull? I am an au for(GOLD), but haven't seen any hard pull on my file. Does it matter if your current AMX member or is it hard pull for everyone?

I stand corrected - you are right, great catch, it wasn't a hard pull, I checked to verify and it was not Amex. So you are right, I'm sorry for that mistake!
