Your numbers are looking good! If you want to apply for the card go for it! Best of luck. Let us know what the outcome is if you apply.

How do you measure your length of Credit history ? is it by the first account you opened or average ?

Two ways.

1. Average age of all open accounts

2. Average age of all accounts, closed ones are counted if they are within the last 10 years.

I'm not sure which one is used where and by who.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

AMX is a strange bird. Applied for Platinum last week with FICO EX and TU score of 765, and been with them for 8 years with no late payments..guess what was DECLINED. Because I carried balances on all my cards including AMX, and was making the minimum for several months. But they are all paid off now (12% ut), well its only been a month, so I will wait few months and get the payment straight, and will reapply.

CONGRATS! Enjoy the card and make sure you sign up for all the benefits. Kind of a pain as you need to go benefit by benefit

Not really. Amex really puts weight on their history with you. Their internal score really weights it highly. I would give it 3 months of PIF behavior on credit cards and app again. Great thing about apping as AMEX customer is that rejection is basically soft pull and no effect on credit. So no harm in trying again right away and not wait the 3 months. However, I would give them time to soft your credit report again. Remember at least 30 days after rejection before applying again.
