My bonus miles never showed up!

Postby ElectricalGuru » Sun Jul 01, 2012 9:00 am

Signed up for the Delta Gold Skymiles in order to take advantage of the bonus 30,000 skymiles they promoted. I met the purchase requirements to obtain the skymiles yet they never appeared.

I called AMEX and guess what, they said my account was not linked to the 30,000 bonus miles. Can you imagine my shock considering the offer is everywhere online and on the back of every delta flight. They even had the nerve to say no such offer exists...REALLY...

anyway I have been a member of AMEX since 1996 but not anymore as I call this a classic BAIT and SWITCH on a corporate scale....no worries as VISA and MC want my money....

I'm going to be PISSED if this happens with me! Then again, it said it could take 2-4 weeks for your bonus offer to appear in your skymiles account. Also, should I have recieved something about my bonus offer in the welcome packet?

Amex tried this with me with the Gold card a couple years ago. I applied through a promotional web link and was entitled to bonus points (I forget how many) after I met the purchase requirements, which I did.

Multiple calls to Amex made no progress. They told me that I didn't qualify for the points for some bogus reason. I know they were trying to get out of living up to their end of the bargain.

I eventually filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It was resolved with me getting the points to which I was entitled and Amex saying they were doing it as a "courtesy." I think you should file a BBB complaint. More people need to do this because they are obviously trying to rip people off.

If Amex doesn't like people taking advantage of promotional points, then they should quit offering them or raise the bar on qualifying.

just read through my welcome packet, said it should take 2-4 weeks for mileage credit. Also, I don't know if you got this email, but just recieved this from Delta telling me "your bonus miles await you! use your card today and recieve them after spending the required amount for your signup bonus". Also, I hadn't used my card til this morning so I think I should be okay. Filing with the BBB is also a good idea if infact they don't get credited

sounds like a Typical AMEX response. I would never do business with them.

Seriously there are ONLY 2 good reasons to do business with Amex these days - 1. backdating and 2. if you get ripped off they back you up. I can't think of another single reason why they are worth bothering with. Their BCP does offer decent rewards but you gotta wait a year to get them. In the meantime, if you do anything they consider funny they will F/R you and you can kiss the cashback back goodbye. Not everyone takes the card, and their CSRs have really gone downhill with the offshoring they are doing. I don't even like the NPSL, give me a limit so I know what I have don't make me guess if I can make a purchase or call in first that's just a hassle. And frankly even if you think the cards give you "prestige" no one looked twice at any of my Amex's they just cared if the charges went through.

Not meaning to bash the company at all, just calling it like I see it. The fact they do back you up in a dispute would be the ONLY reason I would ever consider another card from them - if they change that policy I have zero interest.
