Acceptance in the Orlanda Florida area?

Postby Reclusive46 » Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:25 pm

I've been to some places in the USA that have terrible Amex acceptance and then some that have great acceptance.

What is Amex like in and around the Orlando area? Do most places take it? Are there any gas stations I should avoid?

I totaly understand what you mean. me and my parents went to sarasota Florida in March to visit my parents friend. around a couple of tikki bars didn't take American express, it can get weird. what places do you use your credit cards for? local merchant restaurants?
or chains? local stores or chains? I would say if your going to be going to your pizza/Italian fast food restaurant you will find that a lot
won't take the card. if you go into a local sports store they may but then again they may not take the card. your local bagel shop
same . are you moving to Orlando Florida or are you going on a business trip/ vacation?

I'll be working there for the next 6 months for work and I have a UK business Amex gold card and a UK personal gold card lol So pretty much have to avoid anywhere that doesn't take Amex. My other cards have huge transaction fees and I doubt I'd ever get a credit card in the US as I'd have no credit history.

I guess since Orlando is more of a touristy area, it'll tend to be accepted a bit more.

In some ways Amex acceptance seems better in the UK lol. I rarely ever come across anywhere that doesn't take it, especially with the Olympics things have gotten even better. Funnily enough though I've seen a lot of Discover acceptance signs and they don't even issue cards here.

Use a Visa and/or MasterCard for best credit card acceptance.

Indeed but not much use for me when my Visa Card charges me £1.50 (2 dollars) per transaction abroad and over 6 months that would be expensive.

I live in Sarasota and I really don't find much trouble with AMEX acceptance. When were you here? Was it along time ago?

Isn't Amex about the same?

As a side note, if you have your money at Barclays you can use any Bank of America ATM to get cash without fees.

March 2012, you know where the Tervis tumbler store is, where the westfield mall, where that sports bar, where bogeys is, where the antique car museum and where Cold stone is? there are a couple of tikki bars that don't take American express, at siesta key beach.

if you go to that small gift shop next to the food stand and you spend 10.00 or more they don't take American Express, at turtle beach at that restaurant they don't take American Express.

Nope, I don't have any foreign transaction fees on my gold card for the next 3 months anyway. I got a promotion UK amex was having but I just get charged 2.99% on my Amex (Which is not a huge amount really) but on my Visa I get charged 2.99% and £1.50 (2 dollars) per transaction.

Hey Reclusive46 i actually live in orlando and i haven't had my amex not accepted in any places i've been. every gas station from shells, hess, mobil have all accepted my Amex Zync. Even the local chinese takeout place next to my house accepts my Amex.

Since Orlando is such a tourist spot, most places accept all credit cards. Just steer clear of any Korean Restaurants, im a korean person myself and i found out that most of them dont accept Amex haha
