Credit card for a 722 credit score, college student

Postby cardinal » Thu Jun 28, 2012 1:31 am

I'm a sophomore in college. I live on the east coast, and go to college in California. I'm looking to get a credit card that can help me with travel/rewards. Trying to get in early with AMEX, and would prefer using them. My FICO is 722.

I've had a Wells Fargo College Cash Back card for a year now. I always pay more than the minimum, but I've mostly carried a balance. Should have been PIF, which I now do. I had a $500 CL, but got an increase to $1100. I work part time year round and make about $8,000. I also have scholarships, if that counts somehow.

My plan now is to try for AMEX Blue Sky, and if I get denied, try for AMEX Zync.

Is this a solid plan? Thank you!

-Citi Forward Card for College Students-July 2011
-American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles--July 2013

Go for a Delta Card. I was in the same situation back in 08 and was approved for a Delta Platinum with a 10k limit.

is this a 2 year school or 4? if it's a 2 year try for the Blue sky but if it's 4 why not get pass from American Express, a card for college
students.

the pass card is essentially useless because you don't establish actual credit by using it.

YEH I heard it's more like a debit closer to debit than credit.

If you have a preferred airline you might want to check out which card they offer.

Thanks for all the responses.

I will apply for Delta Gold's AMEX. If that doesn't pan out, I will try for Green/Zync to get my foot on the door with them.

I'm attending a four year school. I've heard that the pass is more for teenagers/high schoolers than for college students, and i'm not sure if it would help me build credit history.

US Airways and Delta are the only major carriers in my home airport, but only Delta has an attainable AMEX card given my short history
