I had a very funny compliment today. Was at Potbelly sandwich shop for lunch with my buddy, and I noticed the cashier asking everyone for their ID. She rings me and my buddy up, and I pull out my gold card and she looks at the card, then me and says "Oh wow! How are you doing today?" She didn't ask for me ID or anything, but had this huge grin on her face. I couldn't stop laughing because I've never seen someone react like that to a card before. And I live in a very affluent area, so it was surprising to me.

Well if she was cute, I hope you got her number.

You guys have Potbelly out there too? We have them here as well I like their food.

I've never had a second glance at my Gold card or any comment about it whatsoever. The CSP being metal does draw some notice though.

I tried, but it got too busy. Next time.

Yeah, we have a few locations. All the locations are owned by the same franchisee.

I've never got a reaction like that because of a card. Was an interesting experience.

Maybe you should always have a post it note prepared and handily stuck to the end that solicits her number or drops her a HUGE hint to call you.

Most entertaining thread here in a long while!

As ubiquitous as Amex golds, plats and - relatively speaking - Centurions are here in LA (I personally know 5 Cent holders), I've still found that I receive a disproportionate amount of respect when paying with my platinum card, both from merchants accepting it, and from the company around me.

Years ago, when I was a bartender at a swanky place, my coworkers and I (rightfully or wrongfully) DEFINITELY gave better service to those who pulled out high-end credit cards. The tips were usually commensurate with our assumptions.
AMEX: PRG Gold, Business Simply Cash, Business Costco, BCE.
Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards
Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard
HSBC Cash or Fly World Mastercard
USAA World Mastercard, USAA Platinum Mastercard
Wells Fargo Business Platinum
USC Credit Union Mastercard
