I got better treatment by using my Platinum AMEX just yesterday.

I was walking around a mall with my wife (dressed in my usual, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt) when we walked into Tory Burch. My wife spotted a purse that she instantly fell in love with and when I sent the saleswoman to pull a new one from the stockroom, she did it, but didn't seem very enthusiastic about it.

We went up to pay, and when I pulled out the Platinum card her attitude towards me spun 180 degrees in an instant. I got her biggest smile and friendliest demeanor, and an offer to pull anything else we needed, and her card for when we came back, as she would be very happy to help us with our future purchases.

I thin the impression it made in her mind was that while I was dressed for comfort (and didn't look like I belonged in her upscale store), I actually did belong there.
My Wallet:

AMEX Platinum - NPSL (obtained in 2012; Backdated to 1989)
AMEX Gold Business - NPSL (obtained 2006; Backdated to 1989)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $30,000.00 (Obtained 2012)
Discover - $3,900.00 (Obtained 1994)
Bank of America - $5,000.00 (Obtained 2011)
Capital One - $7,500.00 (Obtained 2011)

I never bother dressing up when I'm just going out to shop. When I go to stores like Coach, Saks, and sometimes even LV, I basically get ignored. But for some reason, the staff at Loro Piana never ignores me. Probably because no one ever goes there, so they just pounce on everyone who walks in the store. Mind you I look a lot younger than I am.

Main Card: Amex Platinum

Lol @ mainland people.

I'm not going to lie, when I go to the nice mall, I put on a button down, some jeans, and some dress shoes. It's sad to say what I'm about to say, but it's true: Because I am a young African American male, I believe that I get poor treatment until I whip out my LV wallet and actually purchase something.
