Will it really take 7-10 days to receive new credit card?

Postby MaltBeer » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:30 am

Hi, just wanted to share with you that I received the Blue Cash Everyday in the mail a few days ago. Today I decided to go for it and fill it out online. I got approved for the card and said it should be here in 7-10 days. I just wanted to know if you think I'll get the card before the 25th? As I will be gone by then, traveling to Europe.

I applied and was approved for a delta amex on sunday (the 10th). I got an email on Thursday, June 14th saying I was approved and today I got a letter stating the same as the email but with my Fico score on it and things from my credit report. It's been 5 business days so far. It said the actual card and welcome information will arrive in another package, and the letter itself was dated as June 11,2012 so I'm expecting it to be here tomorrow and the latest Monday morning.

I think in certain instances they overnight it to you. I called and the CSR said it wasn't possible to overnight an account for a new card. Perhaps that's because the particular card/not having a history with Amex.

Think it depends on where you are. I tried to get both my new green and gold account overnighted and they wouldn't do it either. Probably have to spend the time setting up the account, etc.

Worse comes to worse call them and see if you can get a temp card at a local Amex office for your trip

It really depends on the card type. My PRG and SPG were expedited 3 days or less. The Blue Cash Preferred was 7 days on the nose.
American Express '02: Platinum, Blue Cash Preferred 6k, SPG 2k, Delta Gold 1k
Barclaycard '11: Apple Financing Card 2.5k
Citi: Diamond Rewards 1.5k
Chase: Freedom 500
Discover '12: Discover IT 1.5k

I'm pretty sure Platinum is overnight. The letter came USPS from Salt Lake City and I'm in KY so I think that is the holdup.

BY THE WAY: in the letter I got, they pulled by score from TU. I remember in a forum someone was saying the always pull experian. Not sure why they pulled mine, and I guess it doesn't matter since I got approved? Again I only had one credit card before this so nothing really was in my profile. They listed the general reasons affecting your fico score and all mine were basically related to having a year of credit history and only one credit card so all good.
