New Platinum on the Way :)

Postby Cyberius » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:51 am

So I've had a Zync for a little over a year. I was cheap when I first signed up for the card, and decided not to go for Gold or Platinum due to the fees. However I've really enjoyed the card, customer service, and benefits, so I applied for the Platinum today and was approved :)

Excited!

Nice! Great card and benefits.

Any sign up bonuses? (pre-apologies for any bubble bursting :) )

25k points for $2k spending in 3 months. I typically do that in one month on my Zync anyhow so no issues getting the bonus.

Grats! I am planning on going for the Platinum, possibly later this year. If you don't mind, tell us a little about your current credit portfolio so others can have an idea what it takes to qualify.

I have a variety of other credit card accounts. I have a:

Discover Card (member for 12 years, longest open card account)
Chase Slate Visa
Bank of America Platinum Plus Visa
HSBC Mastercard
Best Buy CC
2 Barclays Visa cards
Target Visa
Amex Zync, and now Amex Platinum.

I have good payment history with all, and typically rotate usage / carry small balances between all the cards to show activity. I will be making my Amex Platinum my primary card for nearly everything.

I have the obligatory checking / savings accounts, plus IRA's, brokerage accounts, etc.

I'm 31, if that makes much difference.

Also, side note. I asked them to upgrade the Zync. There seems to be internal confusion at Amex as to whether or not the Zync can be upgraded. I went through 2 people who said there would be no issues upgrading (said I qualified for the upgrade, no problem), but when it finally got down to it, they couldn't process the upgrade. Not sure if it's a training issue or what - I was fully expecting the full app process anyhow, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask to keep the same number.

I've read on here that they don't allow you to upgrade zync...not sure why. Also, how do you get signup bonuses since they aren't advertised? Are they given to you after being approved?
Cards in my wallet:
-Citi Forward Card for College Students-July 2011
-American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles--July 2013

I had read the same thing on the upgrade. After he researched he said it's because it's a different kind of card.

As for the bonus, the guy was really nice - he actually offered me the bonus without me asking. It's the same as what's being offered on the forum here, if they didn't offer one I was going to ask. He's even sending the new card UPS Overnight.

Welcome to the club. Membership has privileges, ... don't abuse them. ;) Be sure you take advantage of all the benefits by registering for them. There are a lot of them, read the fine print carefully. You can register your card to your checking account and use it as an ATM card with a $20k a day limit. Comes in handy if you are in Vegas.
