Pre Approved Question

Postby bmw1990Z » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:41 pm

I was getting ready to apply for the gold delta skymiles after researching it and officially having a credit history of a year. I did the soft pull "find your card" on amex's website and while it says I'm approved for that card among others, the signup offer is only for 25,000 miles after $500 spent. My question being is this the offer I'm only approved for and would be denied if I apply for it without doing the pre approved way? Or am I ok to apply for it regularly?
Cards in my wallet:
-Citi Forward Card for College Students-July 2011
-American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles--July 2013

The pre-approved they have is not really pre-approved. It should be the same whether you apply there or mail an app or call them in terms of getting approved or not.

It is a good sign that you have that, but some people get approved without having offers, and others get declined even if they have cards listed, so, if you are interested and don't mind the inquiry just apply.

Ok it says I'm approved for every card but platinum. I'm just curious why the sign up offer would be less?
Also, I have a part time job and get money from parents but I'm a full time college student. So what should I put as source of income?

Your truthful income, unless you want to risk them doing an FR and closing you down when they find out the truth. Basically whatever your last year's tax return says is your income.

Not worried about that as I have proof to back up what my income Is. I was just asking what my "main source" of income should be listed as on the application.

main source of income is exactly what it states - your 9-5. other income - alimony, investments, settlements...

Ok. However, My income is equal parts from a job, investments, and then money given to me by my parents (Placed in my bank account.) Therefore I can't say one is more heavily weighted than another. Should I just put student for main source of income since I am one?

Also, I decided I will apply tonight and if denied I will apply for the offer the gave me for the pre selected offers...

I would state your job and investments income only. I dont believe you can claim money that is given to you by your parents on a tax return....
