I have the amex gold and just upgraded to the prg. I like the extra points I can earn on gas and groceries as well as the prestige. I also like the fact that my if I have a balance on my statement when it reports to the credit bureau, it doesn't impact my utilization percentage. I end up having a week or two longer to pay my amex card than I do my regular credit cards. This card is awesome and I'm a happy camper.

p.s. I was out with some friends and a couple females saw it and made some positive comments when I pulled it out. (the card I mean.) That doesn't hurt.

Same as the guy before though, points are worth less, in monetary value, than what other credit cards can offer in terms of cash back.

Hahahahahaha that's great. However, if you weren't talking about your card I'd be more impressed. Not by it but by the fact that females make positive comments toward it.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Absolutely agreed! But it falls back to what you want from your card. I want cheap hotel nights and free international airfare. If I were to have those two goals using cash back, I would have to accrue 150,000 points per free flight because flights are ~ 1,500. Where using points, I only have to accrue 60,000 miles on delta to get a flight to Europe. Cash back is great, but I use credit cards to get vacations for free.

Lol. I didn't pull anything else out but that card that night. Lol. The bonus points online and then the extra two weeks to pay the bill are worth it to me. I'm going to redeem mine for some gift cards.

Aside from that the gold has the entertainment, I wouldn't say I'm too impressed with it as few of the concerts, etc. have been appealing to me (I live in NY for reference purposes)

On top of this I have it since I like Amex and I like the fact that it's a charge card, it keeps me honest.

similar story here.

I had gotten a gold biz one to separate those expenses but the moment a nice Plat upgrade bonus offer came by upon login I went for it.

For those who are set on a gold be sure to get the PRG Gold (I was silly and had done the regular gold)

If an upgrade offer for my personal expenses Green comes up upon login I'll likely switch the green for PRG. We'll see lol

So basically a status symbol... Got it! I guess I'll wait a while then apply for the Platinum.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

I could get the Platinum right now. They offered me the chance to upgrade from the regular gold to the prg or the platinum. I can't justify paying that huge fee for the Platinum, even with the airline credit. I'm happy with the PRG I have now. I see the benefit in that. It is a status symbol, but it does have some perks that I have already mentioned.

There really isn't a reason to have the Gold card in my opinion. The Platinum is worth it for the travel benefits (I travel a lot), the Amex Blue Cash Everyday is good for the cash back and no fee, as is the Blue Cash Perferred (as long as you use it enough to make up the $75 fee).

If you're looking to make people do a double take when they look at your charge card, the zync card actually gets more looks than the green, gold, or platinum, because they're rare enough that often people haven't seen them before.

I don't really see any reason to have a Gold card.
