Amex Account Review

Postby Maximilian » Thu May 31, 2012 11:01 am

Hello,

I check my credit report almost weekly with Experian and under 'Inquiries shared only with you', I noticed that for the past week, almost daily Amex has been doing a soft pull on my account.

I have maintained a great relationship with them and have paid all my payments on my Platinum card before the due date. Is this something that I should be concerned with?

One thing that I suspect is causing this, is perhaps the hard pulls that been made on my credit report in the past week. I'm shopping for a car and essentially there has been 3-4 hard pulls on my credit report in the past week. Does hard pulls perhaps tiger something with Amex that makes them want to review your account? Do they consider such hard pulls as a risk?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Maximilian.

I doubt it, but I would contact AMEX and the three credit bureau's.

Thanks.

Does anyone else think I should contact Amex and the credit bureaus?

Don't bother. I get those all the time and I doubt any CSR can speak knowledgably to them. They seem to happen randomly. I would however be on top of your cards or maybe make payment to amex.

Not accusing you of anything but if you didn't lie on your application in terms of income, etc. why would you be worried about a financial review anyway? If your making enough money to justify your expenses and you have significant savings in the bank a financial review should be nothing more than some irritating paperwork...

Nothing to do with that. I'm preapproved to put up to $250K with Amex. They determined that credit line by doing a three way call with my bank and asking for my average monthly balance in my personal checking account. They normally grant you 50% of your liquid asset as your credit line. This month alone I put $160K on the card and paid it yesterday in full, just 5 days before the due date.

Given the above circumstances, it's natural to subconsciously think why they are doing a soft-pull on your account almost daily for the past week.

I wouldn't be incredibly concerned with it. You have the cash, they want you to continue to use your card to get their transaction fees. Don't think anyone can answer this question unless they work at Amex and have knowledge of this sort of thing

They usually do soft pulls if you start making big charges. They obviously want to make sure you aren't running up your debt.

I couldn't find the thread post talking about this so I'll just post my question here:

Can you upgrade a gold delta skymiles card to platinum or reserve in the same manner that you can the gold charge card to prg or plat? Also, say you get one of the delta cards and then decide you want to switch to a charge card, would it be a soft pull to change or a hard pull?

thanks for any replys!
