They are having a 30% discount on some of the rewards right now. I wonder if that brings the value closer to what they were before. I haven't been a member that long. What say you Crashem?

If you do the math and have some flexibility on dates, you get closer to 2-3 cents per MR if you use them as miles or hotel points. Especially if you wait for the bonus offers on transfers. Also, take a good look at the airlines that you can transfer to and make sure they don't abuse the fuel surcharge many of the airlines like to charge.

The few times I used the points, I simply called Amex and booked the hotels thru them and asked to use my points to pay.

Oh the discount using points for travel gives you 1 cent per point. The best way is what I listed above, but is more hassle because of availability etc. 1 cent per point is pretty standard. Why not get 2% cash back card instead?

I've got a $hitload of aeroplan miles but use them for hotels too as it is virtually impossible to use them as all classic rewards are gone and all the exec first tickets 'cost' way too many points.

Im finding point collecting is misleading as when you try to use them, they rape you again.

this is why I lean toward collecting MR* points mostly. Less wondering if that type of thing will happen.

* on stuff I would spend on anyway; I'm not spending simply for points lol
