People are talking about two different things. As existing Amex cardholder, if you app and get rejected, you get sp only. Hp if you get the card. There was a feature on Amex website that anyone could go to and see if they were preapproved for Amex that cost a sp. I don't think it exists anymore. It seems like it has been changed to see if you have already been preapproved.

I wish that tool still did exist. I will wait though.

Your signature line shows Amex gold. Just be signed in when you apply. Rejection will be sp.

good stuff. Similar story with me.

I had an Amex from 1991. PIF'd, etc then for whatever reason I closed it. Fast forward a couple of years and a Gold gets in the wallet, bad decisions, job loss .... boom ... CO'd.

BK now.

A few years later I tried again .... declined, BK

Next year ... declined, BK

Next year ... declined, BK

I understand, no biggie.

Then last year I tried again for kicks ..................... APPROVED!

and backdated to 1991 :D

I've been on app spree since (and the BK just fell off this past Feb) and the only prime holdout still is Citi.

As far as HP's go I don't worry about them quite frankly, its a minor hit overall. And once I'm done with that last prime then I'm done for quite some time and those HPs fall under the radar in a year anyway and go away totally after two.

This guy goes into some more detail about that:

And you are right it is Elan which is US Bank, I've called the customer service and when I do I talk with Associated Bank customer service but on the back end it's Elan's financial network. I've called them a couple of times and they are good solid US based support. Interestingly, the Signature card has the same support number as the Platinum which was a surprise to me - all Amex cards I have, each have a different CS number to call.

I just my personal Platinum AmEx customer service even when referencing another AmEx account, they can always pull up my other accounts. When I called my Blue card customer service they didn't know I had another account. I imagine there is some sort of access rights or hierarchy for each level of card service. Like, a Zync customer service rep in India wouldn't be able to access a Platinum Business account, and would instruct you to call the number on the back of the card.

Interesting that's good to know thanks for sharing. You must be right about that.

No. They are unpaid and several years past SOL.

Sometimes Amex forgives, after a while, I just will never make them regret it. Of course they could always F/R me and close my account, but I'll pay what is owed them regardless and only wish them the best if they do.

+2 - American based support is a "luxury" that is often not available. Every Amex CSR I've had is friendly and easy to understand.
