Never hurts to call and ask. They actually do have a program that allows you to convert one of your AMEX cards in your home country to an AMEX card in your new country.

Obviously, it might be too late for this, but perhaps they will grant the backdating based on the fact that you did have an AMEX in your other country.

I always feel the member since is a nice touch and the longer you have been a member the bigger the coolness effect. Hell, I'm not one of the longer standing members (since 89) but most everytime I call the concierge I get a "wow thanks for being a long standing member".... (translation.... sucker LOL kidding)

I love seeing Member Since dates, not just on AMEX but on all cards. I can really respect someone that has 20-40 + years of history. Of course with AMEX there can be holes in those years (because of backdating) but nobody has to be the wiser on that.

Thanks for the info!! It sucks that my home country is not in the list, but I'll call to see what they say... I cancelled the card about a year ago because the foreign transaction fees were over 4% and it was a pain in the neck to make the payments from a US bank account.
