American Express vs. Chase credit cards?

Postby Philosophuer » Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:01 pm

This JP Morgan Chase employee was killing me to get a sapphire or freedom, telling me that they were both better than my Amex gold premier card. I didn't buy it for one second and shut the employee down.

Was I ignorant? Did they have a point? Was I just in my Amex world and should have probably considered it?

Amex Gold is a great card in certain ways, but for rewards I prefer other cards. like Chase Freedom, over the Amex Gold because I prefer cash to points.

When I want purchase protection I use my BofA Visa Signature. When I need to do a chargeback I click a box next to the item on BofA's website. It couldn't be easier.

This *CHASE* employee. Chase is a different division within JPMorgan, and handles the retail side and card division. JPMorgan's card division issues (4) cards, which would blow your Gold away easily.

I would have considered it and taken them up on the Sapphire, tell them to waive your fee for a year so you can make sure you're happy first. Remember: American Express isn't everywhere.

Depends on your preference and how you will use the rewards.

Philosophuer Chase is full of themselves. But in fairness I guess it depends on which cards they were comparing to.

2 years ago I was in your shoes Oct 2010, I was invited to their bank, I guess since I canceled my Freedom card.

The banker was trying to explain things to me, he did mention that a lot of people who travel on business came to them. He said because the Chase cards have lower fees than American Express, he was telling me that business travelers carry 2 of their cards.

Ask your JP Morgan banker how much the annual fee is? And how much coverage is on the card purchase protection?

I think the JP Morgan is $595. Not sure about the other question.
