Will American Express cancel my card for lack of spending?

Postby Sitti » Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:32 pm

Hello,

I haven't applied for Amex Platinum yet, but I am about to. I have heard about Amex close Platinum card account for lack of spending. Is this true? Since I use my Amex Starwood as my primary card, I probably would spend $100~$200 a month on platinum card, except when I travel I would spend a lot more than few hundred dollars. Will Amex close my plat card if I spend too little on it?

No. As long as you pay your annual fee and use the SPG card regularly you are fine.

No, I actually asked the same question when I first applied for my Green, as long as you pay the annual fee, you could charge $10 a month and you'd be good. (Obviously that's a horrible situation to be paying such a high annual fee for those kinds of purchases, but to each his own lol!) Except for the Black Centurion, where, I think, you need to spend a minimum per month, but hey, when you have that card, a new ferrari every other month doesn't seem abnormal...
Wallet: Amex BCE & Chase Freedom. (Credit Card dieting since 2014)

I never use my free Blue Cash and it hasn't been canceled. It's just sitting there with a $25k limit. If they aren't closing my account for inactivity they certainly aren't going to close an account that generates an annual fee.
