694 credit score is not good enough for Amex?

Postby th500 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 9:26 pm

Hello, I have a credit score of 694 according to Experian. Today I got a rejection from American Express for Blue Cash Everyday. I have one Citi credit card with 2882 balance. I got below email from AMEX people:
Reason(s) for Our Decision

We have been unable to obtain your consumer credit bureau score from the agency (ies) identified below.

The consumer credit reporting agency provided the following information regarding your credit file:

The Profile report does not contain any tradelines that have been open for at least six (6) months. (Experian)
But I think a 694 credit score is a fair score to apply for a credit card. Can you please guide me why I got rejected?

Is your credit report locked with Experian?

Also, your score is probably okay to get charge card (zync/green/gold/plat) but I don't think you will get one.

Basically it is saying you don't have enough credit cards to prove your credit worthiness (ie thin file) and that you haven't had credit long enough. Plus, Credit cards with AMEX are harder to get than charge cards.

My guess you just recently got your Citibank card and this card is the only card you have had recently. You're going to have to wait a bit before getting an AMEX unless you are a student or something.

Also, if I am right about my assumptions, you better be careful. Already holding a high running balance on a credit card isn't a great way to start off your credit profile. I would recommend you apply to an easier card to get with no annual fee and hold on to it. In 6 months, with 2-3 positive credit cards on your credit file, you should be fine to get AMEX charge card at least.

When I say locked, I mean you have a fraud lock on your Experian report. AMEX won't give you a card unless they can pull Experian. I know people who fraud locked Experian and AMEX refused to approve until they allowed AMEX to pull Experian.
