amex authorized users

Postby irvine801 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 11:27 am

My fianceè has some issues with her credit (chargeoff for hospital and a credit union card as well) I was wanting to add her to my amex but I'm concerned because they ask for the full ssn. I don't want them to close my account or anything... She is going to declare a bk soon. Should I wait or not even do it at all even with the bk?

Haven't you already asked this question here?

Anyway, I would wait at least until her bankruptcy is DISHCHARGED. I believe that they only ask for the SSN for reporting purposes. But this is AMEX and you can never be sure, You might be better off putting her on the Discover and Citibank cards instead.

I wouldn't give her the actual card with her name on it though. Not sure what caused her credit issues but I believe in separate accounts; you don't need someone elses bad spending habits to sink your credit, even if they are your spouse. Cars and houses joint, everything else separate.

Put her on after the bk, it should boost her credit.

Discharge meaning the bankruptcy went through; on a chapter 7 this is usually three months after filing.

I'll just edit my response from the other thread since both have the same issue.

Piggy backing someone is not recommended regardless of relationship to the person in need of improving his/her credit history.

Safest and best way is to have your fianceè open a secure credit card. Have her rebuild his credit history on her own and begin to take responsibility on her own volition. Psychologically speaking, you will/are not helping her by her relying to your credit history to have her credit history improve.

If the she has any open credit cards accounts, then she should keep those cards open.

Money is all about personal responsibility regardless of how people went from good to bad credit history. Hey, if you know how it feels to be at the bottom, then you will be careful next time not to sink again.

I know this is a harsh response but it will benefit her in the long run.

Well thanks for that. Good info. I just wanted her to have my card in case she needed to get something if I'm working or not at home. But hey that's good to know. Yeah secured I'm thinking is a good start but we shall see. Another question. Should I remove her off my accounts when she does the bk? She's an auth user on my discover Chase and Citi I believe.
