When can I apply for another card?

Postby samudi » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:15 am

Hi,
I have applied and was approved for an amex NYC a month ago. The card I really wanted was the Starwood card but I wasn't sure if ill get accepted. On April I'm supposed to go on a big trip and will probably stay in a Starwood hotel.

My question is, is it to early to apply for another card from American Express?

Thanks

IMO it's too eary to apply again. Put 6 months between credit apps for best results.

I can't vouch for only a month's time, but I was approved for the Zync less than six months ago, and was approved for the Green charge last week- so just under the 5/6 month mark. These are strictly the charge cards though.

As with all things, the approval will depend on your credit history, payment history, FICO score, recent number of inquiries, etc.

If you can, I'd personally wait, but it won't be the worst thing in the world if you apply and aren't approved.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

Apply, you will be approved for about 2000.00

They have a 25K bonus signup but if you can't find it let me know.

You should definitely wait at least 6 months. Will it let you even apply for another Amex card? I know when I try to apply for the Gold Delta Skymiles card, it restricts me, I just got my Zync card approved on January 24th. I click "apply" under any of their cards to see if it will even let me.
American Express Zync | NPSL
BofA Cash Rewards | CL: $1K
Barclay Finance Card | CL: $1.7k
Amazon Store Card | CL: $1.5k
Credit Union Visa | CL: $1K
Capital One: Sony PlayStation | CL: $500

Of course it will let me apply, I'm just wondering if it will make a difference if I wait longer or not.

If your credit profile is thin, I would wait 6 months to show Amex some usage. Put as much as you can through the card and PIF. Than app for the SPG imo. You can do it through Spg or Amex..depending on who have the bigger bonus. GL.

I believe the last time i spoke to a Rep, i was told that the mim CL is 1400. Considering your short credit, i am guessing 2K. Bottom line, i don't see why they will deny you but just in case, as a current member with a current account you stand a better chance asking for reconsideration.

This is a good card to have, best of luck.

I have a Zync and PR Gold. I just got the gold card 10 months ago, I decided to upgrade to Platinum but was having trouble on the website so I contacted customer service about my problem upgrading online, the appologized for the trouble but i needed to hold on 2 more months to upgrade. So i guess the time period is a year inbetween cards.
