Does Fred Meyer count as a supermarket/grocery store for bonus rewards?

Postby mDude » Wed Dec 28, 2011 8:25 am

Can anyone who has an American Express Blue Cash Everyday or Preferred card, tell me whether Fred Meyer (the ones that sell food, clothing, furniture, etc.) purchases qualify for the 3% (or 6% if you have the Preferred card) grocery/supermarket bonus category? Thanks!

I recently made a purchase at Fred Meyer with the Blue Preferred card and it shows up on my statement as "Merchandise & Supplies - Wholesale Stores".

Mind you, that was in the jewelry department but I'll bet the entire store is coded that way.

[UPDATE]

I looked at my statement again and I had another charge from the 'regular' part of the store and it's listed the same way on the statement so it doesn't look like you get the grocery premium there.

does it look like a grocery store? or does it look like walmart?

if it looks like pathmark, walbaums, a&p, shoprite or king kullen then it's a grocery store. if it looks like walmart, target then it's not.

American Express really doesn't care what the store looks like, just how the merchant is coded. That's what decides whether you get the 3% or 6% cash back.
