Personal income on American Express application?

Postby TzarJay » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:22 pm

Here in the UK there are not many American Express card choices, but i take it the application process is the same in the USA. The card i would be looking to get when my score improves would be the Gold Charge Card, which requires a personal income of £20,000 per year.

How important is this? For instance, if you have a good history with credit and a good score, is it possible that they may over look it if you make slightly less than £20,000 per year ?

I am 19 so i don't currently make £20,000, but i'm not too far off £17,500 roughly.

Hey TzarJay.

If it matters to you, I applied for an AMEX Gold Premier Rewards here in the US and got approved for it. This is considering that the recommended minimum income required for the card is about $50,000, and I do not make as much as that.

I would imagine a sterling credit history/score matters more. Hope this helps.

i am not sure what hjamespyun indicated for his income or if the 50k is written in stone for the US gold card, however my understanding is : if one of the qualification for a card is a minimum income requirement, they will very likely declined your application if you fall short of that requirement.

I forgot to mention that I was pre-approved for the Gold PR before applying, which I would hope offsetted my lower than minimum income requirement level [which BTW I got off this link after a quick Google search: http://www.americanexpress.com/lacidc/iccsite/faqpopup.shtml].

Regardless, ooxs makes a good point: if the income requirement is mandatory, it is better to play it safe and wait until you can meet it.
