How long before i get a decision?

Postby 4Runner » Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:30 am

Hi Guys,

I recently applied for the Blue Cash Preferred, and the application is still "in progress".

Does any one have an idea how long it takes to go through?

Thanks
br

usually it's an instant -- less than a minute -- decision process when applying online. when amex is unable to give an instant decision it typically takes 7-10 days excluding weekends. when i applied for my blue i received an email informing me i had been approved. it took another 2 weeks for the card to arrive.

thanks for your response, but i still do not understand what/why takes that long, if i am already a card member, since 06, with a premier card, i think the process should not take that long.

the best i can offer is that for amex the liability is greater with the credit cards than with the charge cards....with that said amex tends to be a bit more stringent in their requirements for the credit cards. i've seen on the board those who use one of the backdoor numbers to have a decline reconsidered which you may want to do considering you are already apart of the amex 'family'.

Found this from FatWallet (but it is from 12/08) : 800-809-6849 (Lending dept) -try this one first.

Also: 1-866-314-0237 (New accts dept). (came from the MyFico forum dated 5/10/11)

Keep in mind that as part of CARD Act, creditors have formula's to determine the total credit lines that they can give you. The formula's determine your ability to repay your debts. Even though you have two charge cards (that don't technically have revolving credit lines), I am sure that there is some internal credit limits associated with them; therefore, you may be at your maximum for credit with Amex given your income. This is just a guess though. It is a different world now thanks to CARD Act.

Thanks CC Deville.

I tried both numbers and it was a No Go for the Blue Cash Preferred, i will have to wait some time, work in my scores, and resubmitted again in the future.

Sorry to hear it. But on the bright side, when you do get the approval it will be backdated.

CC can you clarify what you mean by backdated? I applied before and was denied but finally got approved.
