You can only be backdated to your parent's first accounts if you were an authorized user on those accounts....otherwise your SOL.

J/K. I'm not sure when I signed up on Delta for a frequent flyer number but around mid May I got an email direct from Delta offering the card with 35k miles upon $750 spend within 3 mos.

This is incorrect. You can get backdated to when you first held an amex as au or primary cardholder, not to the date of original cardholder. Lots of confusion even within Amex as this is fairly recent rule change. There are exceptions but this is mainly around reps who don't know or care about rule change.
Amex Centurion, Amex Platinum, Amex BCP 8k->24k (5/23/12), Amex TE 15k, Cap One 1.5% 15k->20k (8/7/13), CSP 25k, Chase Palladium 100k, Citibank AA 35k (AU), Firestone 1.8k->2.2k->2.4k (8/20/12), JFCU Jloc 30k, PenFed Plat Rewards 30k, SF Fire 30k, US Bank Cash+ 25k

AMEX newly revised policy for backdating no longer allows an AU to be backdated to the basic card holders member date.

Furthermore, and this one will appear more obvious to some (while others (ME), not-so-much), AMEX will NOT backdate newly approved cards to your original cards member date, IF that original card was closed and sent to collections....Will your member date remain the orginial when you log in to amex.com - yes! Will the new card (despite stating 12' on the front of the card) report as an account of 06 (my member since date) Yes!

Just activated the below Zync today and it states "Member Since 12" on the front.
