it doesn't work with a costco Aqua American express. let's say you have a membership date of 1989 on the card. you came over in 1994 from the Gold optima to blue and now you have aqua. you canceled your red card that let you into the store, so now your aqua card is gone

if you wanted to get a blue cash card with your original green card membership date of 1989, this one you can't because you were in the costco group.

While i am waiting for my newly approved cards, i tried searching for my old gold business cards that i had back in 1997-99 but i had no luck, less than a year ago i trashed ever old statement i had saved. What number did you have success with and do you recommend calling without having an account number to start with? Is this applicable to corporate accounts as well? Is it possible that my new card is reflecting the date above or must be requested? Also i need to know what is the adventage of backdating.

If you had a business account (OPEN) that you were personally responsible for you may be able to have the new account backdated. Corporate cards will not count towards backdating.

What is the advantage of backdating? If the account was old enough it can seriously help in your average age of accounts. I am seriously considering an Amex Zync in January so that I will have another 13-year-old trade line.

How much can be improved with the credit score by having old accounts?

Mine was backdated to 1998. I had a card dating 1997 but they can't find it but 98 will work.

Thank's guys

4Runner i believe it will backdate the record with the CRA, i can only confirm this after i see my CR.

I'm not sure I'm following you on this one, Money card. The reason I say this is because my oldest American Express is dated at 2001 and I have the Costco True Earnings card (for my small business where I am the owner) which I got back in 2008 which is backdated to 2001.

My oldest account is a personal account. My newer account is a business account. My personal account reports to my personal credit report. My business account reports to my business credit report.

Also, my Macy's VISA - dated at 2001 - got converted to an American Express and the new card backdates to 2001 as well (not sure if it's backdating my VISA account or my American Express history to be quite honest).
Personal Collection:

AMEX: Everyday (MR), Macy's (cobranded)
MASTER: Citibank Dividend Platinum Select (non-World version)
VISA: Chase Amazon Signature, Chase (bank issued)
GE: Care Credit (medical expenses), Macy's (store), JCP (store)

Business Collection:

AMEX: Costco True Earnings
MASTER: None
VISA: Chase Ink Cash

Please, please, PLEASE let us know if it updates your credit report (and therefore possibly your FICO score!) or does something to your credit report and/or FICO.

I actually have no idea if backdating did anything for me because if it did, it would be affecting my business card and not my personal one since the business card is the newer one and... well... I quite frankly haven't checked my business' credit report recently.

Related to this, do you know if Chase (hahaha!) ever backdates or is AMEX the only one who does this?

No. Amex is the only company that backdates. Ever.

Can someone clarify this for me? If I get the Costco AMEX and then later the Zync, will the Zync backdate to the Costco AMEX? The above post seems to indicate as such but isn't that clear.

Whoo hoo, yes, AMEX will backdate your cards with the date of your first one.
