Exactly my point (more or less). Because Amex backdates, this isn't an issue. The OP can just apply for the card that suits them and it will be backdated. As Dan Pass always says too, wait until 1/12 so that right away the new card will report as being old in January.

Absolutely confirmed here, before I even had discovered this thread I had called about upgrading the ZYNC. I love the card so I am going to just live with it for now. I had a supervisor submit a ticket regarding this issue to a higher level and I received an e-mail probably 5 weeks later, randomly, stating the ZYNC card could POTENTIALLY at some point in the future become upgradable. The e-mail stated that due to the newness of the card there is no upgrade policy in place currently, but perhaps in the future there shall be.

Do not trash this card though in my opinion, with AMEX in my pocket I am protected on all purchases, we all have AMEX here we got that by now I am sure, bailed me out of a few scams no kidding. Try calling JP Morgan Chase and say: yea, uh I made an online purchase on my Chase debit card and got screwed can you throw me a bone here and help me get the money back. Just listen as they ease you off the phone with zero resolution. Thats why my ZYNC is my go online transaction card and someday I will upgrade it to green/gold when this product gets some length of history under its belt haha.

^I certainly agree with the Chase debit situation- I ended up ordering some clothing from England a few years back...found out my card number had gotten out from the site I ordered, and the bank/fraud protection didn't really do much. They of course refunded whatever money was fraudulently taken out, but it became a weekly occurrence so I just cancelled the card and got a replacement.
Though I do plan to get a Zync or similar at some point. If not for the rewards, the Amex protection seems well worth it.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

oooooo The best part of the AMEX dispute process is: 'Dissatisfied with merchandise'.

Go on an easter egg hunt on any other major card names web page and look for that little gem haha

Oh and if they actually have it see if they actually will honor it 100% of the time like AMEX. Now I am not condoning stealing, but if you have an AMEX and the company will not give a refund, it randomly broke in under 90 days or you just hate it and regret buying it with no help from anyone... AMEX will nearly 100% of the time step in for under $300.oo and make it right again.

If you have a real ZYNC, not the secured ZYNC, but the real deal and your going to pay cash for something etc DON'T. I have a great hunch guys that all of these good standing ZYNC cards will be upgraded for us if desired sometime in around a year or so.

So what ever you do if this is your only foot in the door with AMEX do not go and close out this acount whatever you do. Heck even if it remains a Zync forever I am happy to be honest.

Bottom line: AMEX is a unique company and NO other card company in my opinion will jump through hoops and do backflips for you like they will haha
