Advice on geting a Blue Cash

Postby kazr » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:42 pm

I signed up for the card because of the 30 dollar gift card amazon offers a few months ago, and thought about just letting it rot in my wallet without activating it, but the rewards part had me curious about what else is out there which led me here. Now I want, no... need the AmEx blue cash card.

I've had a credit card from my credit union for about a year and a half with pathetic 500 dollar limit, which I use on and off. I've had a $900 line of credit from Firestone that's paid off, $500 from GE which is currently at a $350 balance, and students loans and a car loan I've been paying off the last year or so.

My plan is to ask my credit union to extend my credit and apply for the AmEx blue cash, and a zync card in case I'm not approved. Would it be wise to apply for the clear card also in case i qualify for that? As far as I understand it this should only do 1 hard pull on my credit if they're in a close time frame?

Also if the Chase Amazon card is a wash on building credit I was going to cancel and see if I can apply for another cash back card, probably the one from BOFA as gas and groceries is where the majority of my money goes towards.

Blue Cash Everyday - what are my chances?

Postby agp » Fri Apr 20, 2012 10:31 pm

Hey guys I just applied to American Express Blue Cash Everyday last night, and was wondering what my chances were of getting the card? Here's something about my credit:

1. Never taken out a loan, no debt, no late payments, no interest charged
2. Got my first credit card last July, CL at $2000
3. Got my second credit card last November, CL at $3500

How good are my chances?

Thank you!

Main Card: Amex Platinum

Agp didnt they give you immediate approval or denial? Or did you get the dreaded wait a week or so? If you got that message and given your situation (no fico posted) my guess is no. Too thin credit file for revolver. Would have told you to do charge card and wait a few billing cycles to apply for revolver from Amex.

They said I would receive a letter within 14 days via mail. Which charge card would you recommend that I apply for?
And if I do not get approved I am thinking about applying for the Fort Knox platinum card - should I wait/how long should I wait before applying?

Don't need to wait to apply. Only need to wait for Amex now. Not sure how tuff fort Knox is to get.

I know I JUST posted about this in another forum BUT, on the subject of applying for cards, (i want the gold delta amex) but would it be a bad idea to apply for a charge card too? I could always cancel one of them....

I started w/ Amex Delta Plat in 2001. Normally had $1K spend a month. Eventually they raised my limit to 20K (I never asked for CLI). As this was in the days before auto-payments, I sometimes forget to pay on time, but always paid my balance in full when I made payments.

At one point I got mad at Delta & called to switch my card The CS suggested to Optima Platinum. I accepted.

After several years (I think prob 2006 or 2008) I was over 30 days past due, and they lowered my limit to 11K, then 2 months later back to 20K. A few months later I was late again & my CL was lowered to $500. At that point their CS told me about auto-pay, and I've been using that to pay in full every month.

After several denials to raise my CL, I applied for the Clear card in 2008, was approved for $500 limit. Denied CLI every time I've asked.

I finally wound up getting the PRG in 2010, no limit ever given, and every time to I check PRG credit avail on website, I've been approved up to a $20K transaction. In Feb '12 I got the Business PRG. When logged in I'm offered to upgrade to Amex Platinum (from PRG), Blue Cash Preferred (from Clear), & the Sky Preferred (from Optima Plat).

However, as of Oct 2011, they still won't raise my limits from $500 (or even combine the limits)!

Since I spend an average of $1500 mo, I'd really prefer to have it on a card that will also improve my credit score. However, without a higher limit, I can't use my cards for airfare, hotels, etc, so I put all my spend on my cards that get points.

Any ideas of how to raise my CL? Do you think I'd be approved if I were to apply for a Blue Cash Preferred (rather than take chance of upgrading, with same crappy limit)?

(p.s. sorry so long)

BC Everyday - Approved or Declined?

Postby CFE Sleuth » Mon May 21, 2012 11:31 am

I'm a AmEx Platinum Member and also have the SPG card. My wife and I had a baby 4 weeks ago and work travel budgets have been drastically cut, so we/I won't be traveling much in the near future. I decided to shift my spending to a cash back card opposed to points/hotel rewards. This morning I applied for the AmEx Blue Cash Everyday card and wasn't instantly approved (which kind of surprised me). I got a message that said something like your application is still pending (or requires further review....can't remember) and we will get back to you in writing within 14 days.

With other company, the 14 day thing typically means you're going to get declined so I'm a little concerned. Thoughts???
