Plum and Clear card...any information?

Postby anchorman » Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:28 pm

I currently hold an Amex Plat (only signed up bc they gave me 50,000 pts which negated the $450 annual fee but will probably cancel) and Amex Blue Cash. I rarely use either because I also have an fia cash rewards card (formerly the schwab card) which is 2% cash back and and the Chase freedom card which is great for smaller purchases (under $10. I mainly use those 2.

I do run my own small business and am wondering if anyone knows any hard criteria for the Plum card. I applied 2 years ago and was denied but really didn't get any useful information as to why. Does anyone know any specific criteria for this card?

Also, for the clear card, I often will goto a casino on the weekend and it is impossible to get cash from the bank on Sundays. Does anyone know if the clear card has any fee for cash advances? Also do you know how to determine your cash advance limit using an Amex? I am wondering if this is a viable solution to cut down on the insane 3-4% initiation fees that most cards charge. I pay these cash advances off the following Monday so I really don't care about the APR on these cash advances, I just want to eliminate the cash advance fee.

Tell me anything and everything you now about these two cards!

Here are the two reviews on CCF about the cards:

American Express Plum Card
American Express Clear Card

As far as the cash advance fees, you might not be charged a fee with the Clear but keep in mind interest begins accumulating immediately with credit card cash advances.

Not to change the topic but those are 2 cards I might want, what kind of credit score do you need to have to qualify for the Amex blue cash and platinum? Thanks.

since you have a platinum card the clear is a very easy card for you to get. the Blue cash card is a way more of an executive card than the clear.
from what a rep told me once you spend 2,500 you get a American express gift card for 25.00 if you spend 5,000 you get 50.00.
It's a lower level card. I have never seen anybody use one. most people use a chase card or Blue cash or the Gold cards.
never really see anybody using this card.
