New platinum card to-do list

Postby DoingHomework » Fri Feb 18, 2011 1:46 pm

I just called to upgrade my gold card to platinum. Even though I do not get the new plastic for a few days, the rep said the card is a platinum starting tomorrow. So, I can use the weekend to sign up for all the benefits - and the rep gave me a partial list - but for those of you with a platinum, what should I be signing up for. Here is my preliminary list, basically from another forum:

1.Register/activate the card online at http://www.americanexpress.com
2.Sign up for Starwood Preferred Guest Gold
3.Sign up for Avis Preferred Club
4.Sign up for Hertz #1 Club Gold
5.Sign up for National Emerald Club
6.Sign up for Bergdorf Goodman Rewards
7.Sign up for Neiman Marcus InCircle Rewards
8.Sign up for Sony Cierge
9.Sign up for Credit Card Registry
10.Create a Concierge Profile
11.Register travel preferences with PTS
12. Register airline preference for $200 annual credit

Is there anything else?

Now, I already have Hertz #1 Gold. Do I have to sign up differently for the platinum card?

We got an additional card for my wife. Does she sign up for most of these separately as well (the $200 airline credit is 1 per account, but the other bennies seem to be for each person - e. g., she gets her own Hertz #1 Club Gold account) Is this correct?

Thanks

Hi Wicked,

I stumbled through some of these over the weekend. I would go to the AMEX website and only a few of these things seemed to be available. For most it would just take me on a never ending circle of showing a generic benefits of platinum screen then back to a login screen. I was using the Chrome browser. Nowhere did it say that it would not work with Chrome.

Then I tried IE, party by accident since I had it up for another site that required it. Bingo - there are instructions for signing up for each thing. Some of them you have to call and some are online.

So just to clarify since I do not have a platinum but would upgrade should I start traveling more, enrollment in all of those on the list is complimentary if you have a platinum card.

If so, and you can pay a one time annual fee of $450 for the card and $0 for everything on the list, then the card can definitely be worth it if you use it.

Not sure about #9 but yes the rest are free. I always thought the annual fee was too much. I finally bit on their offer recently because of the $200 airline credit and the fact that they give a 10% Hertz discount. We rent to the tune of about $4000 a year from Hertz so those two savings alone pay for the cards for my wife and I.

I'm finding that while all those things are free, it is not always clear how to register. Still working on a few of them. That list is old too. It is generally right but Sony Cierge is now Sony VIP. They have a website you have to go through to register, I did so a week ago and am still waiting for the response. Have not been able to successfully sign up for the Avis program either.

Does any one have an idea how to set points 10 to 12?

Thanks in advance.

This is good news, i have always been a fond of recommending this card to people i know with good credit despite the AF. I was just approved for the Delta Reserve card, i am going to start a new thread about any additional benefits that comes with that card and if you folks can add your two cents, it is always appreciated.
