AMEX Incorrect Sign Up Bonus?

Postby im_mr_awesome » Fri Jun 30, 2017 5:57 pm

So I was ecstatic about the 60k mile for $1000 spend bonus on my new Gold Delta card, and I did the usual: contacted customer support to confirm the bonus requirements. The confirmed it's $1000 spend, but are insistent it's only a 35k Skymiles bonus--far less attractive, but still a ~35% return, so good.

Is there any history of incorrect signup bonuses being attached to cards? I've spoken with two different CSRs about this, and they both insist it's the correct offer. One asked if I wanted to change to the 60k mile for $4k spend, but my spend habits don't match that so it would be a waste without using it for a bunch of expenses at work (possible, but cutting it close).

I'm happy to get a decent bonus on a card I've wanted, so I don't want to poke the bear, but I'm now hesitant about signing up for any other cards in the future for fear of only getting the relatively low public offers...
Scores on the mend...
FICO: 654 (7/2017, AMEX), Vantage: 663 (CK)
Cards I Use Amex Premier Rewards Gold, Discover IT, Capital One QuickSilver MC, Amex Gold Delta (for the free bag)
Sock Drawer Chase Amazon, AE Visa, CareCredit, several store cards for util padding
Next Card Amex Everyday

You said the offer was targeted, I think? By mail? Email? And you applied using the link or offer code they provided?

Having some documentation that you had the offer helps. Having a screenshot of the offer with your info filled in is even better.

If you didn't apply through their suggested channel, the odds of an improved bonus aren't great. If you did, and you have some evidence of the offer, your odds are good.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

Unfortunately, the offer was made through the Amex site when you check for pre-approved offers. I didn't think to take a screenshot. Bummer.

I'll have to see if they will up the offer to the 60k/3k spend, but I don't think I'll get anywhere with that since I already have the card.

I will be taking a screenshot from now on. Thanks for the tip.
