Amex Centurion/Black qualifications

Postby bolaber » Sat Jan 07, 2017 7:38 pm

Hello everyone,

My first post here.

Does anyone know if spending on the additional users on the platinum card count towards the total for qualifications of the supposed $250k annual spending requirements? Or does each individual user go off their own annual spending requirement?

Are we talking personal or business Platinum?

I think it's $250K for each individual person. And that number may be higher now for the personal centurion card

It's not like the invite necessarily arrives the day after you hit $250,001. Some people do get one at the $250k level, but others have been spending much more for years (as in like 5 years) and don't get an invite.

What you buy seems to matter. Dollars spent at luxury stores seem to count more than dollars spent elsewhere. Customers with a long history (as in 15 or 20) on Platinum don't seem to need to spend a lot more than $250k.

It is also a myth that a customer must absolutely have an existing Platinum to qualify. Most have had a Platinum, but some have qualified from other cards. I don't know if anyone has qualified with no Amex history at all. (Lottery jackpot winners?)

Also, the card does sometimes run into spending limits: https://i.sli.mg/P35JIT.png (link from FT member NickinTO on page 9 of the FT thread below)

Yeah...post #130 on FT has the details...spending was 8x monthly average, but no single massive purchase. No fraudulent activity. Perfect payment history for 17 years.

Any particular perks you're interested in? Keep in mind that quite a few people downgrade to Platinum because it offers a lot of the same good stuff for a small fraction of the price...and Centurion gets nerfed just like other cards.
