Gold Premier Rewards Gold Card vs Blue Cash?

Postby craigm1 » Sat Dec 04, 2010 2:18 pm

What would be the better bet of the two I spend a lot on gas and Groceries. This year so far spent $25,000 on a blue sky card. just switched to blue cash, wondering what the benefit would be to go to a gold premier rewards cars. I probably spend 1k on groceries and $350 on gas a month average about $2500-$3000 a month spent on amex

Welcome to the forum!

We have detailed credit cards reviews for both. Based on the information you provided Blue Cash would likely be the best credit card for you. You always get at least 1% and depending on the version you choose, you will get up to 3 or 6% on eligible categories. If you travel frequently though I would recommend reading the review of the Premier Rewards card.

Here are reviews and special sign-up promotions for both:

Do you go to a lot of concerts/sporting events? Do you take customers a lot out to any events? Do you need events before the general public gets to buy tix? Do you need copies of your year end charges and year end summary?

With the Blue card you do get membership rewards, but you can't transfer points to airlines.

Do you want an executive card? or a shopper's card? If you want a shopper's card then keep the Blue. But if you want something like the president of any company would have, then keep the Gold rewards card.

Congratulations on getting any American express card.

Hello everybody. I've been following this website for a while now taking in all the perspectives of the world of credit cards. Its been very useful. I've come to realize that I need to have some sort of credit card for the simple fact that in today's world it is a necessity in terms of credit improvement, car rental and the security of online purchases, just for example. In the process of research and sifting through the various cards out there I have set my sights on American Express. The reason is they seem seem to have the best service and rewards and I'll admit the prestige of the Amex brand itself is a huge selling point.

The issue I'm having is trying to choose Premier Gold or Preferred Blue. I recognize that Gold is a charge card and Blue is a credit card, both the Gold points rewards and Blue cash back interest me but I'm torn between the choice of either one. My intention with whichever card I get is to use it to streamline my bill paying process and sundry expenditures: gas, groceries ect, and pay off the balance at each cycle, while benefiting from points or cash back. In some ways I'm a little more keen on the Gold card because its charge card which makes me a little more at ease rather than a credit card. Also the delusion I may eventually accrue enough points to fly off somewhere for a trip is tantalizing.

But before I take the plunge into either I thought it would be a good idea to ask all of your for any advice. Thank you.

Sorry about the long post.

Very easy:

1. You want to get money back, go for the Blue Cash Preferred card.

2. You don't want to get money back and prefer the point system, go for the Gold Premier Rewards card.

Just keep in mind option 1 is a credit card, and option 2 is a charge card.

Cancelling my Amex Gold PR card in place for Amex BCE

Postby RidgeRacerJM » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:50 pm

Hi everyone,

Like an idiot, I was enticed by the massive bonus points (50,000) and "prestige" of owning an Amex Gold PR card, that I opened just last November. However, I know this card is totally beyond me, and am debating about applying for the Amex BCE maybe next month to replace it.

If I get approved, i'd keep the Amex Gold till a month before the annual fee is due, and cancel.

Is this an advisable move? I don't want to to trigger a financial review.

sure save the 175. is absotuley a great idea. if you wanted 2 you can ask for them to lower you down to a green card.

when you do this don't foreget to redem your points. whatever you plan on doing don't forget to redem your points for travel or gift cards.

since you had the card for a year it's certainly a great move, canceling a American express gold is fine because your going to have there other card your fine. Thank you for trying it out for a year.
