Gold vs Zinc

Postby tique » Tue Sep 21, 2010 4:37 pm

I've been getting offers from amex in the mail. one for green and one for gold.
but i've read about the zinc card on this forum. and i was just wondering if the gold card is right for me or should i go with the zinc card.

I do travel twice a year. my expenses arent very high, and if it's an item over a couple of hundred dollars, i usually pay more than half in cash in order to protect myself from unforseen circumstances. I dont carry a balance either. my monthly my expenses consists of gas/groceries/restaurants. then there's the rare clothing and electronic items, but i rarely buy expensive items and as i mentioned i try to have cash to cover half the cost.

i didn't read much on the green card and didn't consider after i read about the zinc card.
my question is, what will i miss with the gold if i go with the zinc? if i up my spending will i be missing rewards without the gold card?

i also dont want to pay a fee if im barely using the card.
i guess i'm just unsure and dont want a card that my expenses wont compliment it. i hope that made sense.

Welcome to Credit Card Form!

The Gold is primarily geared towards those whom travel frequently, hence you pay extra for the travel benefits.

Here is a comparison of the best charge cards so you can see them side by side.

I am curious, how does paying half with cash better protect you? Wouldn't it be much easier to get your money back from amex rather than the merchant if they refuse to refund you?

what i meant to say is that i never know when real life situations might arise, situations that might require cash or credit card usage. and since i like to pay off my balances, i never want to max out my card or use more than 50%. i make it a rule to never go past that % till i become wiser with managing how much i spend, and fully knowing that i will pay off that amount and not carry a balance.
