Last four digits on Amex

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Tue May 31, 2016 10:53 am

Does anyone else have two or more Amex cards with the same last four digits?

I keep some card numbers stored on Amazon, and I find I can only distinguish between the cards if I look at their expiration dates.

Maybe I'll request a new number for one of them when convenient (not during constant travel).

Mine are the same as well. It's relatively annoying. (Last time I was on a call with Amex, they asked me for the last 5 digits on my card, ha).

But, yes, I do. And, yes, it can be a pain in the ass.

Mine do have different 11th digits...although, of course, that difference doesn't help avoid confusion with most merchants that only look at 13-16 for V/MC/D, or 12-15 for Amex.

Have the same issue with my cards as well.

Makes choosing the right card tough on various websites like Amazon who do not allow you to "name" your cards.

I would say with a Platinum and BCP, it's not that bad because I'm not paying for regular items with the Platinum.

Still far from ideal though.

I used to have a Green and PRG with the same last 4 and same expiration dates. I told Amazon they should allow naming cards, but that's obviously gone no where.

I have not had this issue, but if I ever receive a card that has the same last four digits as an existing card of mine, I'll simply call the issuer and ask for the card to be reissued with a different number. They do this all the time when a credit card number gets stolen, so it should be no big deal.
