Business vs. Personal Approval

Postby Dave823 » Tue May 03, 2016 9:48 am

I'm interested in getting a personal American Express, but I've had some credit issues in the past. All issues were at least 4 years old, and my score is around 700. I know normally I might not be approved for a gold card with this score, but I'm wondering if Amex uses my business account as a factor in the approval process. I own my own company, and have an American Express account that has had no negative issues and a spend around $100,000 per month. Will this be factored into my application? I don't want a pull on my report if there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of being approved. And if you're wondering how I was approved for the business account, I bought the company two years and Amex allowed me to take over the account.

When I applied for the Gold Premier, my score is 723. Instant approval. I have the BCE before gold. I don't know exactly how the score plays in the decision model, but I thought I could just share my situation.
Amex Blue Cash Everyday - 8K
Amex Premier Rewards Gold - NPSL
Chase Sapphire Preferred - 6K
Chase Freedom Unlimited - 8K
Chase Slate - 3.5K
CITI Costco - 6.5K
Discover IT - 6.8K

Were any of the issues with American Express?

What kind of issues are we talking about?

Are they showing on your credit report?
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
Citi - DC, Prestige
Discover - It

When I applied for my Platinum I was also around 700 and instant approval.

If your issues were not with AMEX & currently have a Business AMEX account in good standing, odds are probably with you and not against you.

Good luck

Their charge cards are allegedly easier to qualify for than their credit cards.
