Amex Travel hotel "not available"?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Fri Apr 22, 2016 8:53 am

Tempted by a "spend $500+ on a prepaid hotel at Amex Travel, get 7500 bonus MRs" offer on my ED card, I explored abandoning an existing reservation booked directly with Best Western so I could re-book it with Amex Travel.

The Amex Travel website, however, said the property was "not available on the dates selected", even though the Best Western website and Hotels.com both still show availability. I definitely entered the nights, number of rooms, and number of people correctly on all three.

Has anyone else encountered this sort of "artificial unavailability" on Amex Travel?
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

No but did you try calling Amex Travel to see if it made a difference in availability? There is a 39$ fee if you do it over the phone though.

I went over the numbers again and the savings from my AAA rate is actually better than 7500 MRs. I meant this more as yet another cautionary tale of the limitations of Amex Travel.
