Blue Cash Preferred High Limits?

Postby Clm7214 » Thu Mar 24, 2016 10:06 pm

Question for you all. I have a BCP with a $30,000 limit and was thinking of trying for a CLI soon and was wondering how high some others have gone? My credit score is above 810 and have 3 cards with $15,000 limits (BofA, Cabelas, Disc) and my Citi Prestige (my favorite) has a $35,000 limit. I was thinking of asking for $40-50,000 on the BCP, but this is uncharted territory for me here so I was wondering if others had BCPs in the $40-50,000 range. I always pay in full each month, but do move quite a bit of money through the BCP and Prestige.

Why do you want such a high limit? How much are you spending on the card monthly?

I'm assuming your credit is in pretty good shape and that it will largely come down to your income. Not that I could tell you what Amex would like to see in income before granting $40,000-$50,000, but chances are you aren't using much of your current limit on a regular basis.

As far as I can tell from other posts I've read, anything over $25,000 seems like a special consideration from Amex (which you are already over). Although, my Blue Cash is the highest limit of any card I have ever had, and they seem very liberal with their limits. If you normally use more than 20% of your limit, I think Amex will approve you for something that brings you to 10% utilization. Their representatives can also be helpful for determining if you should receive a limit increase.

Is $30,000 your initial limit, or have you received an increase before? How long have you had it?
